If you are approaching the end of your maternity leave (or “Me-ternity” as my husband likes to call it) you may be feeling a little daunted about returning to an office and colleagues you haven’t seen for about a year. What makes the whole process even more stressful is that you find the clothes you wore to work pre-baby no longer fit; it is also very possible that neither do your shoes!
Whilst returning to work after such a long time away from the office, and with a new and demanding role as a “Mummy” to add to the equation, it is perhaps not surprising that you are feeling a little overwhelmed. If that wasn’t bad enough, you head to your wardrobe and dust off (quite literally) your office wear only to find that those stylish shirts, skirts, suits dress and trousers no longer fit. Depending on how you look at this, it is either a disaster or an opportunity…SHOPPING!!!!!!. Whilst you may have counted on the fact that you would need to buy some new clothes, you are floored by the fact that you also need to buy new shoes! Suddenly those slinky stilettos seem to have shrunk and you are now struggling to force your feet into them.
Foot widening is a very common occurrence post childbirth (around 70% of first-time mums find their feet have got bigger) and is due to hormonal changes which make the joints in the foot relax. Sadly, it is permanent.
If you find that your feet have got wider since you had your baby then it is really important that you don’t try and shove your pretty pieds into your old slimmer shoes. This will only lead to painful feet in the short term and deformed feet over the longer term. It is time to seek shoes which are made for a wider fit. Luckily there is Sargasso & Grey!
Maybe you have been off for 9 months; maybe a year. Perhaps you are excited to be returning to work, to have the opportunity to enjoy a coffee before it goes cold, or to go to the loo without being followed by an infant, or even just to indulge in some adult conversation. Or perhaps the thought of heading back to the world of paid work (you never stopped working whilst on mat leave, only stopped being paid for it!) is filling you with utter dread. After all, depending on how long you have been away from the office, much may have changed. At Sargasso & Grey we make ALL of our shoes in a wider fit. Founder, and Mum of two Katie Owen, established the brand in 2014 when she found her feet had got wider since giving birth and realising that wearing ill-fitting shoes would only lead to ugly damaged feet over the longer term she opted for the sensible solution and went looking for stylish wide fit shoes……………………..but alas! On hitting the shops Katie soon realised that the market for elegant wide fit heels was almost non-existent. Recognising a gap in the market she launched Sargasso & Grey which specialises in beautifully made stylish wide fit shoes for women who want to look elegant and fashionable but do not wish to compromise on comfort. After all, why should style and comfort be mutually exclusive?
If you are a new mum returning to work after maternity leave and needing a wider shoe fit, or if you are a woman who is sick of wearing shoes that squeeze your feet all day, our shoe will be the perfect solutions. Here are our recommendations for stylish wide fit office shoes………………
