I was recently asked for my opinion on the term ‘Mumpreneur’. Being a Mum and a business owner, I guess I fit quite neatly into this bracket. It is a term that has become synonymous with women who start their own businesses who are also mothers. Often it refers to women who started their business whilst on maternity leave, or on a career break. But what does it mean and is it a powerful title for women or is it patronising?
If truth be told, I am not a fan of this title. It is true that I started my shoe business whilst on maternity leave, but I feel the fact I am a mother has no bearing on my business acumen or how I run my company. Giving women labels such as ‘Mumpreneur’, in my opinion,
